It's Spring Remembrance Day !

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I took a trip back to my hometown for Qingming festival. Among all the names given for the celebration, I much prefer to call it the spring remembrance day or Ancestors Day because it's one of the days in the year where we remember all the good deeds, teachings and the memories that our ancestors have passed down to us. Hey, face it, without our ancestors we wouldn't be here right now and that is one of the many things that we should be thanking them for.

For all those who are not familiar with this celebration

"The Qingming Festival (simplified Chinese清明节traditional Chinese清明節pinyinQīngmíng JiéPe̍h-ōe-jī: Chheng-bêng-cheh or Chhiⁿ-miâ-choeh, Ching Ming Festival in Hong KongVietnamese:Tết Thanh MinhRyukyuan:shīmī) Pure Brightness Festival or Clear Bright FestivalAncestors Day or Tomb Sweeping Day is a traditional Chinese festival on the 104th day after the winter solstice (or the 15th day from the Spring Equinox), usually occurring around April 5 of the Gregorian calendar (see Chinese calendar). Astronomically it is also a solar term (See Qingming). The Qingming festival falls on the first day of the fifth solar term, named Qingming. Its name denotes a time for people to go outside and enjoy the greenery of springtime (踏青 Tàqīng, "treading on the greenery") and tend to the graves of departed ones. " -Wikipedia

Honestly, this is a first for me too. Before this, I don't think I've ever celebrated Qingming before. I'm a Catholic and my grandparents are Buddhists. Even though, we have different beliefs, I think after a person have passed on, the only way for us to connect to them is through a higher power as we're already living in two different worlds. Just because I'm from another religion doesn't mean that I can't pay my respect and pass on my thoughts and intentions through the ways they've practiced. I do think our ancestors would be glad to see us visiting them at their graves during this festival so having different religion shouldn't be a barrier for us to send our regards to the other side. Of course, we could still pray for them in our own way. Sometimes, the thing about religion is we will never know whether it's completely true or not, it's like rational versus belief. We'll never know the authenticity of it all  but it's more about what we choose to believe in, what we choose to hold onto and are we willing to look past this thing called logic and place all our trust in God.

We started our journey towards our hometown at around 6.00am in the morning which is an one hour delay from our original plan. That was the largest mistake we've made that day. I regretted not sleeping a little earlier and getting my ass up earlier that day.

What breakfast looked like.
 Wantan mee
Siu yuk. ( I don't fancy the siu yuks in tronoh cause it has really hard skin )

We arrived at tronoh at around 8.45am , had our breakfast at the nearby wet market, drove back to grandma's place, unloaded unnecessary things from the car and loaded necessary things into the car that includes a steamed chicken, roasted pork, vegetables, 'chung' , 'fat gou' , a basket of fruits, a bottle of tea, a bottle of alcohol, cups, plates, an umbrella, joysticks, bags of paper money, paper clothes, paper iphones, paper wallet and paper glasses. By the time we arrive, it was already 9.45am -ish and boy, was the sun blazing hot. We headed on to our first grave to visit and did everything according to procedure. We cleaned the graves of all the weeds, prepare the food and joysticks for the ceremony, paid our respects, asked for blessings and burned some necessary things for them. ( which means everything that has the word paper in the sentence about what to bring ) From the moment I walked away from the first grave, I knew it was going to be a long and hot journey. Bringing an umbrella was practically useless cause the sun literally shines through the umbrella and onto our heads. Not exaggerating. They say Malaysia don't have seasons. Then how do you explain the weather right now? There's only two explanations, either blame in on greenhouse effect or it's currently summer in Malaysia. Is everyone excited for summer? I know I'm not and I think my three toned skin have become even more prominent now. Lol. Anyways, after the first grave, we've moved on to visit 5 more other graves and repeated the same procedures for almost all of them. Overall, the experience involve excruciating heat, sweaty overalls and dehydrated people that look like they're gonna faint anytime soon BUT it was a valuable experience and heat will not stop us from visiting our ancestors.

Simple Happiness. Happiness can come in small ways like a can of chilled 100 plus and a cup of iced 'Leong Sui' after a day under the blazing sun. Not kidding. The coldness of the water running down your throat was the best thing that could happen to you when you're dehydrated and hot beyond belief. I'll continue this post later about my next half of the day. Byes for now !

It's over.

Today, before the clock strikes twelve, marks the end of the dreadful trials. Thank Goodness. I know I probably didn't do well but like how the movie " Olympus Has Fallen " quoted - I will not have the word die without having a fight on my face. After trials, I had the usual breakfast at peppercorn with the shorties gang plus a man with big boobs that joined us afterwards.

He probably looks like this

And he Likes to do this

In case you're wondering, who's in the shorties gang. Let me introduce to you two of my favourite girls in class. We click so well that we have compatible height too ! Like they always say, birds of a feather flock together. LOL.

Shorties gang = two of us

+ Fatty

After breakfast, we headed on to Subang Parade for our movie marathon and maybe, it was school holidays, Subang Parade was packed with people and we've met plenty of familiar faces there while lepak-ing around the mall like homeless people waiting for our movie to start. We've watched Olympus Has Fallen and Warm Bodies. (WARNING: SPOILERS ahead)

First up, Olympus has Fallen, it's basically about a one man show where a single man comes to the rescue, saves the day and redeems himself for his past failure. The storyline was typical but Gerard Butler's acting was amazing, the show have its climax that makes your heart race and the storyline was engaging enough that you won't fall asleep in the cinema. It's really a great show and I have a feeling that Gerard Butler is the new action movie star like the next generation of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. I just checked it out and Tom Cruise is already FIVE OHHHHHH while Brad Pitt is just one year younger. Seriously, it feels like it was just yesterday that I watched Mr & Mrs Smith and that was eight year ago when I was 11 yrs old. In another blink of an eye, I'll probably be twenty seven and who knows what'll I'll be doing then but I do hope I'm still writting.

Next was Warm Bodies and basically it's about

A Zombie

That turns into a human with the power of L.O.V.E

Overall, it was a light hearted movie with a quirky point of view from the zombie which can be rather funny at times.

Can you spot the difference?
Fatty and I both agreed that the female lead actress have an uncanny resemblance to Kristen Stewart but in blonde. Basically, a blonde and older Kristen Stewart? Actually, the correct definition should be Kristen Stewart looks like Teresa Palmer, just that she's younger, brunette and has a vampire as a boyfriend rather than a zombie. LOL.

However, if you had to compare both the movies, I would definitely recommend Olympus has Fallen. They're both on different genres but Olympus Has Fallen is on another different level. I'm leaving back to hometown now. Byes ! Have a great day ahead guys.

Fishes go round and round.

I'm back as promised !
I've just survived the day with two hours of sleep last night. I think caffeine does wonders but it causes insomnia too. It kept me awake for 4 hours before being able to sleep for a good two hours from 4am-6am. Even right now, I believe the caffeine is still circulating in my bloodstream keeping me awake.. It's either that or the 'extra' sleeps I've accumulated thus far finally decided to compensate for the lack of sleep today. I think I have plenty of 'reserved' sleep in my body like reserved batteries. The only problem now is how to activate my reserved sleep when it is much needed. LOL.

Anyways, this post brings us back to five days ago where I had a dentist appointment for the removal of my braces but guess what, it didn't happen cause my teeth are as stubborn as me and they decided to split open to reveal a hole again. So, tightening we go. After the appointment, we headed on to Pavillion to hunt for sport shoes. I've been working out without shoes for the past month and boy, does my feet feels rough. It's time to get a pair of sports shoe ! Shoes, shoes, shoes.

I was searching for something like the ones above cause I'm a big fan of pastel and bright colours but of course, it was to no avail. They say the more you're looking for something, the more you can't find it and when you're not looking, it'll come looking for you. So no shoes that day but it was an awesome shopping day nonetheless.

Fitting room pictures. Every girl does it.

I'm in love with this pair of mint gradient jeans from Forever 21

And Sheer Richard Parker blouse from H&M

Did I mention that H&M have beautiful fitting rooms with mirrors on two sides of the walls?
So I proceeded with taking more fitting room pictures. hehe.

After a good day of shopping, we went to Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles for Fish Head Noodles, duh. I have to say, this place have one of the more awesome Fish Head Noodles I've tried in KL thus far. Although, I remembered it tasted better last time as compared to now but it is still superbly amazing and I always go back for more. The fried fish noodles with milk is the best plus it comes with this awesome sambal. A place that serves awesome sambal is a good place and I love, simply L.O.V.E to eat my food with sambal even if it means mucus will be leaking out of my nose like a waterfall. You can either say, I'm a person that loves to challenge the odds or you can just say I'm stupid and I like to dig my own grave. HAHA.

Outlook of the place.

Fried Fish Noodles with Milk

The awesome sambal that you can take however much you want !

Fried fishcake + fuchuk for only RM9 !

All time favourite drink there that definitely doesn't tarnish it's good reputation.
Fuchuk yi mai. or you can say fuchuk barley. LOL. There's 'bak guo' inside too !

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles
Jalan 1/109F, Taman Danau Desa, Kuala Lumpur.
Opens: 7.30am – 10.00pm. Closed on Mondays.

Btw the place operates differently than normal hawker stalls as it opens from 7.30am-10.00pm means all day long and you simply can't miss it.
I've stopped two days of working out and proceeded with two days of eating crap due to exams. Time to get back in shape. Bye for now.
Love, Kaiwen.

Shock

Hello awesome people that's currently reading this. I'm sorry for not updating the past few days and I was planning on writing another post today but that post would just have to wait.

The horror of realizing you didn't check up on your timetable properly and end up mistaking it for another paper is exactly like this.

I am mentally unprepared for this kind of surprise !!!
I have mistaken my Mathematics P43 for Mathematics P33 and they are completely unrelated. *cries in despair again* I think if exam continues I'm gonna die of dehydration and insufficient mucus cause I cry after every exam.

P.S Fatty if you're reading this, you must be the next Muhammad Ali cause you must be the kindest person on earth. HAHAHAHAHAHAHH.

I shall sign out now and see you guys tomorrow ! (:
Wish me heaps of luck for the exams tomorrow.

Not a good day.

So, I've just spent two hours in the exam hall producing ATP for muscle contraction on my fingers and stimulating my brain cells to come up with genius answers that won't make make my awesome bio teacher vomit blood but now, i think the chances of her remaining calm isn't very high cause my ATP wasn't produced fast enough, my brain wasn't excited enough and.

.
.

I couldn't complete the paper. *cries and goes into devastation*

*positive side kicks in* HOWEVER, I've always believed the harder you fall, the higher you bounce back up. So I will use this as a motivation to work harder from now on. Btw, right before my exams and when I was at my parking lot, my poor car died on me and I panicked and almost arrived late for my exams. My poor car literally died cause it can't even produce sufficient energy to lock the car via remote. I had to lock it manually one by one. From that moment on, I knew it wasn't going to be a good day.

Nothing cheer up the day like food after exams.

Mee Jawa from Well Cooked Gourmet, SS14. Tasted okay but nothing special.

My favourite rojak from one of the stalls in Wong Soon Kee, one shop and one road away from Well Cooked Gourmet

The awesome kerang

+

Awesome-r sauce.
*note the kerang on the left and right?
I ate the one on the left and Fatty ate the one on the right. I eat like a beast yo !

Some additional information on the place, Lim's Fried Chicken in SS15 originated from this place. Even with a branch in SS15, they still have good business over here and this place have sentimental values cause my parents often brought me here for lunch back when I was a primary/ high school kid.

Before I leave, here's how Fatty draws a penis ! EPIC STUFF.
She even said it was her best drawing.

SO SHOOOOOOORT.
And then

I realized the penis in the CIE textbook really is that short. LOL.

Burgers, Patties, Yummies.

If you don't already notice, I really do love food alot so I shall dedicate my blog to food and day-to-day life. I get the most inspiration to write when I'm eating and those inspirations are normally related to food. LOL.

Today I'll be talking about Burgertory and probably make references to BurgerLab. So will the Factory or the Lab win this round?
Burgertory has it's similarities to BurgerLab but instead of having Chicken and Beef only in its menu, it has Pork, Vege and Beef ! So i guess it's vegetarian-friendly.
One point to Burgertory.
Plus Pork ! Two points now.

For me, burgertory is just around the corner of my college in SS15 and BurgerLab is way too far and it's located in a corner which is difficult to spot. It can be quite a hassle to look for the place especially for people with a bad internal compass like myself. So, one extra point to Burgertory for strategic location and attention seeking appearance.

Burgertory Address:
No 8A, 1st Floor, SS15/4D,
47500 Subang Jaya,

Burgertory opens at 6pm and is located right above Guardian and right below English House.
Here's what happened, the fatty and I basically camped outside Guardian in our car cause our class ended at 5.30pm and we waited till a customer head up the stairs before getting out of the car and walk up to the Burger place to prevent looking like two little pigs that can't wait to turn their beast mode on.

Here's the menu and for those who've went to BurgerLab before you'll notice this rather obvious similarity between the menu. Instead of A+ , they have B Plus+ .
So for Similarity, I'll minus one point from Burgertory, pushing it back down to two points and add one point to BurgerLab for Originality.

The buns are like usual hamburger buns but it tastes like soft buns which is how I liked it. However, BurgerLab's charcoal bun is still leading in innovation. BurgerLab plus one more point for Innovation.

Time to turn on our Beast mode !!!

My Swine Bacon & Cheese.
Doesn't the pork bacon just looks so irresistible?
The pork patty is juicy and one bite into it satisfies your burger cravings. It tastes good if not, better than good.

Fatty's Burgertory Hot Smokes that is as hot as her but doesn't release smoke.
The fries and sauce to dip the fries in is similar to BurgerLab but BurgerLab's definitely tastes better. One point to BurgerLab for taste. Extra one more point to BurgerLab for food presentation.

Do you see the stools and workmen's bench as tables and chairs? It's so adorable.
Plus one point to Burgertory for ambience and spaciousness. BurgerLab is constantly filled with people and the place can get a little too congested sometimes. Maybe Burgertory just opened so it doesn't have much customers yet.

Btw, because of it's grand opening, for every burger we order, we'll get a free upgrade to a set which includes fries and drinks which would normally cost RM5. The drinks are refillable ! When I said Burgertory and BurgerLab has similarities, I seriously ain't lying. I'm not sure how long the promotion lasts so head on there before it's too late ! And Burgertory doesn't have service charge. I like.

That settles it, BurgerLab leads with four points and Burgertory is right around the corner with 3 points.
BurgerLab has a more unique taste to it and they've successfully make sweet burgers taste pretty good so it'll be hard to overtake them anytime soon.
However, Burgertory serves good burgers so I recommend you guys to try it too. Who knows, you might even prefer Burgertory to BurgerLab. Everyone has their own personal preference and I definitely wouldn't force my opinions onto you.

The picture I used to self publicize the blog on facebook and Insta.

I'll either haunt you in your sleep or charm you in your dreams.
Love, kaiwen.

FOOOOOOOD !!

Hello all you food lovers out there ! Here's a short update on food. Get ready to drool.
Before I start, I would like to say I hate Candy Crush, I hate it before I even start playing it. Candy Crush is basically crushing all my friendship away. All my friends rather face their smartphones than look at my beautiful face and talk. *cries* I have officially lost to a facebook game.
Also, my bed is so alluring that it makes me so demotivated to study and trials is in exactly 3 days away. I'm dead.

First up, D'italiane kitchen.
This is one of the better italian restaurants I've been to in Malaysia. Somehow, Italianese doesn't appeal to me that much. Plainly said, Italianese doesn't excite my taste buds as much as D'Italiane.

 Adress:

I usually frequent the one in Sunway Giza.

Spicy Beef Bacon Aglio Oglio
This is literally foodgasm. OMG.
The spaghetti doesn't taste too bland nor does it taste too salty which is normally the two kinds of taste you get for ordering aglio oglio. This spicy beef bacon Aglio Oglio have combined the taste of the bacon, the oil and the spaghetti perfectly well.

Beef Bacon and Mushroom Carbonara.

Grilled Balsamic BBQ Chicken Thigh.
Trust me, although it looks like a black deformed ball that descended from the skies and landed on a plate due to my bad photography skills and lighting, it tasted like heaven. Even though, I've never been to heaven to know how it feels like there and I don't plan on going there just yet.
The chicken is tender, flavourful and definitely a delight to your taste buds. This dish takes maybe, 5 minutes longer than the spaghettis we ordered.

Another one of our all time favourite starters that we didn't get to order that day was Mixed Bruschetta Platter. It is a must try if you go there. Basically, it's italian bread served with four different variety of toppings.

"tomato and basil, salmon and ill, creamed mushroom, chicken and avocado with toasted focacia bread slices on the side" - googled it

The bread makes all the difference. It is soft and moist and baked to amaze.

Next up is Alexis in The Gardens, Mid Valley.
Sometimes, I feel like Alexis can be slightly over rated. However, the food ain't too bad and it is a good hang out place.

Bucatini Carbonara. What four out of five of us ordered and then they realized the spaghetti have a larger diameter than your usual spaghetti.

Lobster roll. The lobster roll and coleslaw is good but really, RM36 for fries that looks like normal Mcdonald's fries doesn't make sense ! RAWR.

Talking about Mcdonald's ! In conjunction with National Breakfast Day, they're giving away free Egg McMuffins tomorrow ! From 7-10am.

If you don't trust me, here's prove:
*click on the link and read the morning truths. That's me.

It's free! free! free!
Wake up early and head on to the nearest McD
I'll probably be categorized under those that rather sleep than eat. Which category are you in?
